Hi lift Jack down position?

We used a Jack-all brand jack to lift the back of our sheep truck when we got it stuck in Iceland, and the very strong ladder part of the jack bent alarmingly.  In the end we used an exhaust-powered bag jack thingy (and melted it, but not before we un-stuck the sheep truck.)

Having used farm jacks for changing tyres and also recovery, I agree with the opinion that they should be used very circumspectly as a recovery device, but not as a jack unless there are no other options, it's just too easy for the vehicle to fall off, with potentially dangerous consequences.
