Lack of clearance to remove handbrake drum (part 2)
« on: August 15, 2005, 18:08:41 »
My post seems to have gone missing regarding the above, but to summarise: my borg warner transfer box fitted to '79 two door chassis is too long to allow removal of the handbrake drum as it fouls the lip on the floor. Someone suggested removing the rubbers on the transfer box to allow it to drop down if I remember rightly. Will this work - has anyone tried it? I don't think there will be enough clearance if i simply cut away the lip on the floor.

I suggested removing the mounting rubbers from the gearbox to get the drop. :D

How much drop do you need to clear the lip in the floor and how close is that to the thickness of the rubbers?

Are the chassis mountings for the gear box welded or bolted to the chassis? If they are bolted then you could remove these with the rubbers to give extra drop.  :?
