Anyone know how to fit a winch to a Frontera sport if a winch bumper is not available?

Any help appreciated.

ARB make a frontera winch bumper... talk to Devon 4x4.

Other than that, you'll be looking at fabricating something yourself or using a demountable system with a receiver in the front.

Unfortunately the ARB is for year 2000 onwards vehicles and mine is a 1992. They were extremely helpful at Devon 4x4, I bought a couple of DVD's and will definitely shop there in the furture.

They even said if I was at the Malvern show they would talk to me about my options and help me out, unfortunately I will not be going, but A* for customer service.

Or get a 'Tirfor' style hand winch, which is often more versatile anyway, in that it allows you to pull in all directions.

Slightly harder work though!

I was hoping to get a winch which would work on a disco or a 90 aswell so I can take it with me when I change. Just fancied gearing up the Frontera for some solo adventures.

The Tirfor you could take from car to car. Even if you had more than one car it would be useful.

P.S. What has happened to your plans for a Discovery, I assume you don't want one now if you are spending 'proper' money on your Frontera.

I have decided to spend "disposable money" on the Frontera. I was looking at a winch as I could move that to a Disco or 90 if I got one, but the cost of a bumper has put me off. Also I have no basic recovery equiptment which I decided might be an idea to get.

What I am doing now is doing the best I can to get the Frontera off road ready buy using mainly things I can take to another vehicle. So i have a hi-lift jack and the hi lift recovery kit, I have tow rope, shackles and some fiberglass sand ladders/waffles.

I am lifting the suspension but that is only costing Ã‚Â£30 for the shackles.

This way, I can use the Frontera till it dies or I out grow it, then I just take everything with me to the next car.

That makes sense, most kit is not vehicle specific - except as you said the winch bumper which would be expensive in its own right.

Have you passed your test yet, with all this off roading you must be ready by now if you haven't.

I'm getting geared up for some laning too. Fitted a CB aerial this morning at 7:30am and will be wiring in the CB tonight if I can find a place to mount it.

I can't be bothetred reading all this thread but the cheapest route is maybe get one fabricated. Some local engineering shop will run you a bumper up.

OK, at 8:30am am I get a call asking for directions to my office, I gave them.

At 4:30pm nothing, so I called the company who I purchased them from and they said their delivery company delivers before 5pm.

Still nothing. Cannot work out why ask for directions a day before they come.

I will see if they come tomorrow, if not I will chase them up.

What about getting a winch in a caddy, removable so you can use it on either end? Someone here will lnow who makes them, I think it may be Warn. Then you only need the brackets fabricating and you don't have you winch stuck out in all weather.

It is Warn... they do a cradle for an XD9000i fits in a standard 2" receiver

When I wanted a winch on my Isuzu (same as the frontera) I had the same problem finding a winch bumper. I ended up getting a universal mount and making a carrier that sat across the front dumb irons

The carrier was fabricated from 5mm steel and bolted on with 6 M12 bolts
Cost me about Ã‚Â£30 to have it made at a local engineering shop.
