fitting a r380 to a 200 tdi
strangerover:
"But R380s seem to last longer."
May sound silly.... but is that not a sign they are better ? because they last longer ?
muddyweb:
The R380 *should* last longer as it has a higher maximum input torque than the LT77. They are also *supposed* to have a smoother gearchange.
But... these are LR gearboxes we are talking about... so there are no guarantees..
datalas:
Dad's R380 has lasted a reasonable amount of time, although that has lost synchromesh on a vast number of gears (first and second, tis on it's way out in third)
having said that, it is more or less pot luck as to how it will survive but you certainly hear fewer complaints about the 380 than the lt77..
thermidorthelobster:
Most of the problems with the LT77 seem to be with the spline wear on the main shaft, which is sorted with later versions anyway; hence me not being sure if the R380 is really that much of an improvement. Certainly in daily use you're not going to notice much difference, I would have said.
datalas:
they'll hopefully notice some difference, reverse is in a different place :)
joking asside there is a noticable difference between the two gearboxes, the R380 from my experience feels softer in the gearchanges. Although there may be a moderate amount of hallucination going on there... :)
