Today is MoT day for Stig.  After everbody else who has passed 1st time, I'm convinced he's going to fail.  Knowing my luck, it'll be something terminal too.   :evil:

Lee, did you use any seam sealer on it after welding or just coat it up with paint/underseal?

mine failed last week :-(  I was welding in the dark the night before, putting some extra brackets on the outer sills to hold the rear body panels on better as the original mounts had long fractured.  Also did patches over a couple of holes as well as a few other bits n bobs... what did she fail on..

Headlights - no beam pattern, reflectors corroded
Windscreen wipers - not working.
Steering shaft bushes warn

Hmmmphhhh, the first two were annoying as I'd done the aim best I could, and the wipers worked fine....Turned out to be a loose nut on both wiper arms!

To add insult to injusy the transfer box is now leaking oil :-(

just a good coating of hammerrite all over it all, hadn't thought of seam sealent :-k , hopefully i'll be finished tomorrow, gopt the bumper mount to repair as both bolts snapped off that hold it on :roll:

so far 4 evenings, it may not be smooth and perfect, but it only cost me 5 quid to do it for some sheet metal and a couple of quid for paint!!! :(contented): it will go in next weekend ( i'm suppost to be going to play on the weekend after! [-o<  [-o<  [-o< )

It failed.   :(

Wasn't too bad though:

Holed rear cross member.
OS outer sill (which I knew about)
NS Wiper blade
NSR Number plate light


All in all, it's fixable.

I passed finally :-) one day out of retest and they let me have it for free :-)

On the plus side my welding skill are getting rather hot!

I've paid for mine to be welded.  I couldn't be bothered!

A hundred notes, and he's done a bl00dy good job.  He didn't patch the sill, like I asked, but completely fabricated a new one by hand.  The underside of Stig is now bomb proof.

Retest is Monday, which has put a bit of a downer on the Birthday Bash, 'cos I won't be able to go out on the Sunday.   :cry:

Know exactly how it feels, took mine along for its first test since I bought it in November, expecting the worst (as you do)  :roll:

Passed with flying colours and only two "advisories" one to replace the brake pads 'cos they were well worn, which I knew already and was in fact waiting for some shiny new green EBC's to turn up! and rear fixed brake hose was corroded and could fail next time. well as it will hopefully be treated to a 2" lift soon and i'll be having extended brake hoses fitted, i'll get them to do it at the same time  :D

It would appear that when the salesman said it had only ever been used on the school run, he wasn't far wrong.

I needed some thicker metal for the S3 chassis, the standard steel I use is to thin for chassis repair, after a hunt round down my mate, I found the roof off a transit van. Bingo, just the thickness for chassis plating :wink:

Did the 2 plates for mot, and no prob, sailed through :lol:
