Is the Animal or the Warrior worth buying for it's off road capability please?

Drove a new warrior about 6 months ago a freinds. Very nice but not for me. He come on a lane or two with me did ok but don't think they would do well at a whaddon for instance. Am i wrong in thinking they are really for just getting on and off building sites with the tools.

I did own a Shogun Sport (til someone nicked it!!!) and it did perform quite well off road. I had it fitted with BFG AT's

Check out my website, http://www.mudpics.co.uk and the Yorkshire Dales link from the gallery to see where it got to. I did have no complaints with it at all except for a gearbox chatter which turned out to be the clutch plate. the chatter didnt develop until I had done over 25 miles and it was really hot so test drive it well....

Let us know how you get on[/url]
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

I e-mailed these guys about the photo at the top of their site.
A fancy looking vehicle.  Maybe a rally prep.
Unfortunately they tell me it's a £1000 motor.
Surely someones built a replica for a lot lot less :?:

The Mighty Zook goes where the L200 won't and cost less than the L200 replacement engine after the conrod left the block.  Never again, a waste of money, take an L200 off road and see how many fail.

I'm in the minority I accept.....but I do off road my L200 & I don't mean green laning with the shinies & claiming to off road......I mean off roading! I've been to Drumclog, Weardale etc & followed, lead, recovered & been recovered by Landies, Zooks & everything else! & the vehicle coped admirably!
The weakness is the bizarre positioning of the alternator....which sits well down in the engine bay! However.....in two years it's let me down once! & that includes a drive round the Sahara desert!
My truck has a 2" suspension lift, a 1" body lift & 285/75/16s M/T's. It also has a locking rear diff!
A consideration is certainly the rear over hang.....a bobtail is on the cards! Serious off roading has knocked the rear over hang about a bit!

2 dead alternators and Mitsi tried to void the waranty on the second due to seeing pictures of me off raoding on L200.org.  It doesn't mention wading depth in the manual and Mitsi support failed to supply the information when I phoned them.

Power issues from 15 months old and still waiting for Mitsi to fix it, it will be 4 years old in Novemeber.

Clutch at 15K, not covered by warranty

New head as every expansion chamber cracked.

Dealer snapped bottom pully bolt when changing timing belt, engine out and crank reworked.  Then a few months later the con rod leaves the block and Mitsi won't touch it because the warranty expired.

More replacement fog lights than I can remember and they still fill with water.

Yes I had some fun in it on and off road and it did pretty good at Weardale.  But ask how many L200s went home on recovery trucks after a day at Bures......  My Zook has been in water 4 times deeper than the L200 and got through, even after it flooded in the deep water at Kirton this weekend it started after a little WD40 was sprayed on the HT leads.

I'd say if you want a super bling look good toy get an L200, but I'd never buy another.  It was £27K of wasted money and the worst after sales service ever.  I'm happy to send copies of the complaint letters and replies if anyone wants to see them, just think before you buy.  Roofus is OK as Mitsi Ireland seem to have a far better level of custome care than Colt Car Company in the UK.

Check out www.darkside4x4.com and you will see plenty of piccys of L200's offroad. They are alot better than people think. I had one and was surprised at how capable it was - its just a bit too long.

That said had a big accident in mine and wrote it off - and swore blind I would never buy another - they can be very lary on the backend in the wet and let go easily when they arent carrying a load.

Got a Disco 2 now and its heaps better!

We've called ours Big Boy Blue (see Chris9119) piccie above - well Little Star did.

Looks like we are taking it green laning in August to the Isle of Wight - we are leaving Big Boy at home. :(

Will let you know how we get on :)

L200's dodgy reliability
We run a few for work, which spend a lot of time off road and they go through engines like nothing else. We have one at 96K at the moment, two and a half years old and it is just having its fourth engine fitted under warrenty!! Mitsubishi after sales service, also sucks very badly. The L200s are OK off road and are a very capable load carrier though.
A friend of mine who owns a local motorsport dealership, reckons if they are used off road they need an oil and filter change at 3000 miles maximum. or the engine will expire at 30K. This would appear to be born out by our own experiences of several L200s'. They are a better tradesmans van, than a true off road vehicle for farms use.
We run several Isuzu 3.1 Ds and these have been round the clock a few times, no problems.
There is always a better way, go find it!
