Basically I have had a new 'recon turner' engine, new injectors, yet it smokes like any thing on ideal, which is funny at traffic lights with low open top sports cars, however the MOT man doesn't like it.

Do we have any ideas to why it smokes so much, is it possible for the servo to take to much air, reducing the amount to be burnt?, or do i have weak injectors? or is the pump nackered...??

By the way it is blue smoke, with a hint of white, however when you rev it, there seems to be a build up of black smoke which rushes out.

Doesn't sound to good  :!:

Could the blue smoke be down to valve stem oil seals. How long has engine stood as a recon unit before being fitted to the vehicle as the oil seals go hard after time.

The engine went straight away back into the land rover, literally 3 days after collecting it, I cant see the problem coming from the actual block, it has got to be something to do with the auxillaries

:-k  Could the DPA pump timing be slightly out :-k  or a faulty injector for the black smoke. Check the valve clearances for the blue smoke

was the pump attached when you got recon engine ? as very unlikely that turners would supply faulty stuff, they double check everything.
on my old oil burner, I took the injectors down the local diesel injection specialist and just asked if they needed cleaning and sorting ..... they ran then through the test machine free of charge.
If you fitted pump your self might be worth getting checked at a professional diesel place, as the pump adjustments are very hard to set at home 100%

The injectors are new, however they are the britpart ones, which are no the best and may not up to the job if a new engine has been put in? they lined the pump up for us however we fitted, the timming seems fine, doesn't miss a beat when put under pressure, and i have driven over 600 miles since i put it in. Or is it worth just getting a new pump which i have sourced for a £100 and genuine injectors? the MOT is comming up soon.

Yes the injectors could be the problem, bad spray pattern, or the break off pressure no right. its the easiest thing on that side to check

As has been said a lot of probs down through system, so just need to confirm that the smoke is diesel or oil induced

It is definatly blue smoke, well light blue. I tried to film it however the digital camera is broken... sounds familar some how, it occurs just above tick over, with a little throttle the smoke appears. My best bet is to take it to lucas autos, or a diesel specialists. The vehical is spot on in every other catagory apart from smokes on tick over. The whole idea of putting a new engine in is to pass the MOT which ironically i will fail again due to excess smoke.
