Which winch for my defender

I have just got myself a newer defender 90 and it has an X9 supperwinch on it already.
I have sold my old defender but the person buying it did not want the winch so the question is, which one do I keep and which one do I sell ?

I have a Goodwinch 9.5 tds and its a year old with no problems yet, the X9 is 2 years old but all working as it should.

I know the tds costs less to purchase new but does that make the X9 a better winch?

Both have good reputations, but I'd be tempted to keep the newer one. The TDS range seems to be gaining a good following.

Do you need the money?
You could just mount the spare winch on the rear.

Also did you keep the winch bumper the TDS was on?
The TDS might not fit on the winch bumper the X9 came on, if your not sure then best to check first.

I have both bumpers, so fitting is not an issue.

I do like my tds and I had David @ goodwinch fully seal it up before I fitted it. I don't know much about the X9winch, which is why I asked the question.
I could put it on the rear, but does that not require fitting a new rear X member and cutting a big hole in the floor?

I was hoping to get some money back from selling the bits I dont need . Its more money in the post for other toys. :D

You dont need a new crossmember, you can make a winch cradle to fit just inside the tub with brackets going to the chassis (big ones tho).
A new crossmember looks nicer tho  ;)

I now have a td5 and this has the fuel tank at the rear.  where does the winch sit if you change the X member?

Like front mounted winches, many of them are not really necissery, but are still fitted.
Plus once you have a winch fitted you can then find a use for it, even if its just holding the bonnet wider open than the normal stay ;)

Have a word with Dave Bowyer at Goodwinch about the bac-rac.  You can mount the winch removeably onto the towball.  A rear winch is a nice thing for lowering away down hills but you need an external brake and/or steel rope rather than plasma, the heat generated by the brake will melt it.

Sometimes the best recovery is form behind too, either a following vehicle or to drag your self back out rather than further in.
