Mixing Tyres?
« on: March 09, 2005, 20:16:38 »
I have a set of four alloys with colway ATs 235 70 R16 unfortunatly one (front drivers side) has develloped a few cracks/splits in the wall that are about an inch long (the tyre is still holding air).

I also have a set of 4 Trac Edge 225 75 R16 but one of the steel wheels is scrap due to my incompetance.

Given that I cant get to a tyre place until saturday and I am off to whaddon I therefor need a bodge.  I have 2 questions

1) Can I trust the Colway not to blow out on me

2) Could I put a pair of trac Edges on the front axle and leave the Colways on the back.

Might feel a little odd but as I remember it is OK as long as axles match.

I've never been a fan of mixing tyres, but provided they are all radials and are all the same size, then the immediate problems will be reduced.

If you haven't done so, measure the tyres to see how close they are... on the given sizes they are close, but that doesn't take into account differences in tread pattern.
