Metal flecks in Gearbox Oil
« on: January 19, 2008, 14:57:21 »
As above, dozens of tiny tiny little metal flecks in the gearbox oil, I suspect its never been changed so should I be concerned?

It is just little tiny flecks, almost like glitter, not swarf.
Oh, 2 pints of water out the front diff  That'll be why that died then.
I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.

Gets better.

Rear diff, got the sort of coloured oil I would expect.
T Case, black an frothy
Gearbox, came out like cappachino
Front diff, dunno, not bothered :)

Noticed I now have a leak on the front output of the t-case so I think I might need more than a diff. Had extended breathers but I cannot pressurise the front diff, theres a seriouls leak someplace. Gearbix/tcase breather had broken on that stupid t-peice. Just re-run them all with brand new hoses with a U peice on the snorkel end. Shouldnt happen again.

So definately after a Sanata Diff, provisionally after the prop and t-case too.

Gearbox is now sweet as a nut, actually changes gear! and all nice and quiet now :)

I must confess the the activities of the UK governments for the past couple of years have been watched with frank admiration and amazement by Lord Vetinari. Outright theft as a policy had never occured to him.
