why are the new defender engines restricted to 85mph?

can the restriction be overcome easily?

Didn't know they were - the one i drove certainly wasn't - maybe others can shed light if it's true or not?

One reson for resticting cars speed is that critical items like tyres don't have to be such a high specification, ie. manufacturer can fit tyres with a lower speed rating ie. speed ratings of N and above rather than say R and above.


Rather than change the gear ratio to limit the top speed, fitting a restricter to the engine means you can do 85 economically, rather than having to rev the engine to its maximum.

Where and Why would you want to do that speed or more in a defender?

I bet the Limiter would be on the ECU if there is one.

Definatlely restricted to 85mph

drove one last week, gets there quickly, definately capable of more :twisted:

But I do agree, why would you want to? I was overtaking a row of cars that wouldn't overtake a tractor and before I realised it I was there :oops:
