Oily Rear Diff?
« on: November 13, 2004, 20:15:08 »
Hi All, have found oil? has leaked from the front of the rear diff, seems to come from the joint with the prop.

How could it have happened?
What to do now.?
Cheers.

Colin

Mine was leaking and fixed it with a mate.  Getting the 15mm nut off the pinion flange was the hardest bit cos of the loctite.  When it was removed I heard a hiss - so checked the breather banjo on the top of the axle and found it was blocked   - this caused the seal to go  . Cleaned it out , replaced the seal and all is now fine.

That's a good point, check the breather first.  It may be all that's needed.
I fitted 3 sets of hub seals (and new stub axle) before I realised what was going on.  Best lessons hardest learned!
