OSX 10.what that is the important part most of the newer programs now won't run on anything less that 10.3

What you've probably done is downloaded something that is only compatable with 10.4 - the latest OSX

To check which OS you have click on the apple top left hand corner choose "About this Mac" you will see the version on the window that comes up

Indeed, as Mudlark said, check your OS version by clicking on the blue apple and selecting 'About this Mac'.

Get MSN from here and make sure you download the correct version for your version of OSX.

Skype ONLY works with OSX 10.3.9 and above.

So, if you have something like 10.3.5 then you can still most liely get it working by using the Software Update feature.  To do this click on the blue apple at the top left of the screen and select Software Update - install all updates and you would then be at 10.3.9 with a bit of luck.  If you have something like 10.2.x (where X is a number) then the version you have of OSX is too old and you would need to update to get Skype.

hmm, sounds a bit like a permissions error - i.e. the file(s) can't be created because of incorrect owner permissions.

are there any other messages after the 'error creating file' message??

something i would try as a first step would be this.  Open the applications folder and then find the Utilities folder and open that.  Open the icon named Disk Utility.

As shown in the screenshot below, make sure you click on your main hard drive - shown as 1.  Then click on Repair Disk Permissions - labeled 2.  Let it do its thing, once done, quit the Disk Utility and restart the machine.

Now try installing MSN/Skype/iTunes again and see what happens.

I haven't seriously used explorer for years as it's no longer supported for macs  but certainly didn't get any problems downloading to the desktop with it or safari

However I now use Firefox and that is brilliant looks like safari but runs 1000 times better   you can get a lot of nice add-ons for it too consequently I no longer get pop-ups or infuriating animated ads on the page I'm reading.

And the best thing is, it's free

I use firefox on the pc, but didnt know it was on the mac lol, might have a looksie for that lol, i must admit i am liking the layout of this now, no start bar down the bottom, etc........, just need to work out how to make me ipod work with it, its a 1st gen ipod which only works with the mac and has never been used, so going to have fun with that when it charges!

Usually on the Mac, you plug it in, and that's it.

When I got my new phone handset recently, I thought I'd sync it with the PC.  So what do I have to do...  install the sync software, configure it to work properly with Outlook, set up the Bluetooth pairing, find what serial port is being used, use another little utility in Control Panel to make sure the serial port is reserved for the phone, etc etc...  Oh, to hell with this.  I'll try the Mac instead.

On the Mac:  Click the Bluetooth button, Browse Device, tell it to sync and 2 minutes later, all synced.

That reminded me why I bought a Mac.

I recently bought a PC, purely to install maps on my iQue, only cost me £15 so I'm not moaning in that respect but before I could install the palm program I had to update IE to 6 but PCs won't let you do it off line it has to be on line     and the thing is at the end of the day the palm program didn't actually use IE6 - it just had to be on the computer

Why do PCs have to be so CR@P?

iTunes files will be in yourName:Music:iTunes:iTunes Music   as mp3s

Vidio will be in yourName:Movies:    as Mov files which are quick time movies so you'll have to have quick time on the pc

I normally transfer using a memory stick

If you can't get them both on a wireless network (or wired for that matter), you can buy PC-to-Mac USB cables on eBay.  Not sure how you use them but they're aimed for transferring files backwards and forwards so there must be a cunning way.

Beat it with a hammer!  Preferably the heaviest you can find!  Does it show that I dont like macs?  :D

i spent many years in IT and had to support macs in a PC domain enviroment where they were nothing more than a pain in the arse!  Burn em all, the world will be a better place!  lol

Unless you do graphic design for a living? In that case I hold my hands up and admit defeat, if you dont then you better get yourself a nice PC!
