10p To Report Crime
« on: March 04, 2006, 20:18:50 »
New government proposals are being put forward to have a 10p charge for reporting non-urgent crimes to the police.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4384376.stm

I think its terrible, i know they need to ease the workload of the 999 operators but there is no reason for them to start charging for reporting crime!  If anything it will reduce the workload by a minimal ammount or will have crimes going unreported as people wont report them.

Won't effect us up here.  Your lucky if they answer the phone in Workington police station.    Still waiting, after 8 years, for someone to come after chasing off 3 ner do wells sneaking about late at night.  But if there's an RTA they come from miles away.  God know's what it'll be like after the merger with Lanchashire Constabulary.

sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

People shouldn't be reporting non urgent crimes to 999 anyway, you should call your local police station which is gonna cost you the price of a local call anyway, maybe a central 101 number means people will be able to remember it and call instead of calling 999 cos they can't remember the no for the local fuzz shop.

The important thing is that the police accept that what THEY think are minor crimes are not necesarilly the same as what WE think are minor, eg car crime IS IMPORTANT!!!!

Tell em when you are reporting it that never mind coming too quickly i have shot them anyway, so the offenders won't be going anywhere quickly. Should get the bobbys round quickly.

I read a story once, bloke phones police to report burglars in his shed....... "We'll send someone round for a statement in the morning...." after some arguing he hung up..... phoned 999 and said that he'd just phoned and it was about the people in his shed..... and the fact that he'd just SHOT them!...... Plod was there like a shot!
