hi again, just wondering if you can fit a dump valve to a 200tdi engine?
only reason im askin is ive got 1 from where i used to work & might aswell put it to good use, also cant beat a bit waaaa tish

'scuse ignorance..............but what is a dump valve - I know it's the thing that Chavs have on RS Turbos etc, that makes the "waaa tish" sound, so I guess it goes on the turbo. Do all turbos have one, or is it a Chav option thing ?
Jim
PS - on the service sheet for the 110 and the Disco it talks about cleaning the dump valve - I thought it was referring to the drain 'bulb' on the airbox !!!!!!
-
Isn't it the valve mechanism that 'dumps' the contents of the turbo (or manifold?) to stop the impellor stalling/slowing down when you lift off to change gear?

thats what it does & also stops the impellor plades exiting through the housing when running high boost cos the pressure difference between the sides o the turbo can make the blades go ping & shatter

on the service sheet that is exactly what it is refering to

So not all turbos have dump valves then ?
Where in the plumbing would one be fitted ?

on the inlet pipe between the intercooler n the inlet manifold i think, need to go n look at a cossie again

Dump valves don't work on a Diesel.....
A dump valve works by opening when you lift off the accelerator pedal...
This is because when you lift off the accelerator pedal, you shut the throttle blade in the carbs/throttle body.
With the throttle blade shut, a vacuum is created in the inlet manifold... it is this vacuum that makes the dump valve open...
The problem is that a diesel does not have a throttle blade, and hence will never create a vacuum...
Which is why most diesels have a seperate vacuum pump for the brake servo.
This is the brief answer......Send me a pm if you want a better answer
However, if you 'REALLY' want to fit a dump valve you need a soleniod controlled by a mirco switch on the accelerator pedal (or injector pump) and a tapping into the line to the brake servo.
When the soleniod is activated (when you lift off - closed throttle) the vacuum from the brake servo tapping would activate the dump valve.. and give you the wusssh noise your after....
One such kit - http://www.allardturbosport.co.uk/pages/dump_valve_kit.shtml

So V8 reline...... will this make you a chav?? Your be fitting side skirts and low profiles next

shhhhh been lookin at 19's for it the other day & was down at a car audio place gettina proice for a mahoosive stereo system

This is the system I got on my 200tdi Disco

Hey Mikey
make sure the 19" are polished spinners

Does it make any difference???
-
Yes is the short answer. better pick up, better acceleration, lower emissions and if driven sensibly the mpg is better!

What's next????.....

Sorry, but I fail to see how it would make a difference on a diesel... petrol yes, but diesel no.....
The only way to make a diesel go better is to alter it's fuelling... i.e. to tweak the pump and make the fuel curve more aggressive. More fuel=more power. (not quite as simple as that, but that’s the basic equation)
If this was the magic answer to get a better pick up, better acceleration and lower emissions from a diesel car, all manufacturers would be fitting them....
I can’t see how this is anything other than a noise thing….

I'm not qualified to judge the rest of your point, but this part of the argument comes up a lot, and I'm not sure I agree with it when it does.
Manufacturers build cars to a cost. They're not too worried about the emissions (providing they hit targets) or economy. They're striking a balance between performance, cost and reliability.
You could just as well argue that if chipping engines worked, then the manufacturers would do it to all cars. Well, of course, chipping does work, but manufacturers don't uprate the programme on all cars, because it would lead to a larger warranty bill, amongst other things.
If I made a great gadget that increased diesel economy by 10%, but cost £500 per vehicle, the manufacturers wouldn't fit it, because it would take away their profit margin, and they don't care how much their buyers spend on fuel, within reason!
By the way - great image :)

a lowered disco now i would like to see that
-
I have to admit the fuel pump has been tweeked as well and this makes a big difference, combined with the valve you'd be suprised how much
better it can be.
