As i think i may have just blown my rear diff. Would i be right in thinking i cant mix 10 spline with 24 spline :?:
-
You can run a 24 spline and 10 spline providing you have matching half shafts.
-
And providing they are both the same ratio of course !
If they are both from coil sprung vehicles, then they ought to be though.
-
I have another complete axle from a 10 spline rangie. So will probly Just swap the whole axle then.
-
Quicker to just swap the diff and half shafts.
Count the teeth on the crown wheel just
to make sure it's the same ratio as the
one your taking out.
-
So are all Defenders and Rangies/discos 3.54:1 diffs then?

With a few rare exceptions, yes.

Id just do diff and half shafts. All the same fittings.
10 spline stuff much easier to get hold off.
If your 24 spline shafts are going spare I'll buy them off you.

He has got 2 holes in his diff pan as well  all of those bits tryin to get out!

:( I remember when mine went not long a ago. Not a pretty sight. Below is a pic of the rear pan after the diff tried to escape.....
