What other vehicular passions do you have outside 4x4's?
Passed over from a thread on the Defender forum, here's my MG Midget about to start it's second rebuild. Bought this when I was 17 (too long ago to remember!) rebuilt it in 1984 after an RTA and started racing it in 1985. It was laid up in 1991 or 92 for various reasons and never used since. I've decided it's time to get the poor thing out on the tracks again.....
The tyres are definately not mud terrains :lol:

Always nice to have other interests. Put a 20" lift on that and you'll be fine in the mud :twisted:

If im not mistaken that a yokohama A008 i had a set of those on a astra GTE years ago they are brilliant. when they were ready for new one's i could not get any. I was tolled they only do mini size.
I really miss that car my second car, i was 17 it was 2 years old. Had every thing done to it. 160 bhp at the wheels koni adjustable shocks pi 35mm lowering springes. American racing wheels i loved it my pride and joy. Ah memories.

Muscle Cars.
By that I mean the 'Ain't No Substitute For Cubes' American cars of the 60's & (very) early '70's.
Vehicles like;
1969 Dodge Charger R/T; (best know to most people as either; the assassins car in 'Bullitt', or as General Lee in 'Dukes Of Hazzard'
1968 Mustang GT390; Steve McQueens car in 'Bullitt'
AC Cobra; beautiful, but with a venonmous bite. It was reputedly killed the most drivers in comparison to its production figures (about 1100 427's)
Dodge 'Road Runner'/Plymouth SuperBird. NASCAR racers for the road.
Plymouth GTO
'Hot Rods'
Good examples include the '32 Ford Deuce Coupe in the George Lucas film 'American Graffiti'. Also the beautiful 55 Chevrolet Bel-Air driven by Harrison Ford in the same film

Simply awesome bits of kit, beautiful, Ferrari emabarrasing performance, stonking V8's & (now) straight-6's

I've got a soft spot for mainly 'traditional' layouts, ie; Normal Controls.
Thisis best shown with the American 'rigs' like the Kenworth W900 in the 1977 film 'Smokey And The Bandit', or 'Convoy' with a Mack R700.
Some European trucks are very nice as well, such as the Scania T-Series
Heavy Haulage
The 'Indivisible Loads', that alway used to make the new in the 70's. 2 Scammells moving a 200foot, 200 ton oil refinery structure
World Rally Championship
Sadly I haven't seen a lot this year, only the Sardinian

i used to like football, but unfortunatly i had an injury which put me out for a year. i finaly looked on footbal in a different light. it was no longer a friendly sport where two teams could go to a pub and drink together after a match, nower days ikts a bunch of ballerinas diving, spitting, fouling, abuse oh and the punch up's after...... :shock: wheres the sportsmanship gone?
in the past i have rebuilt a vw beetle from scratch, stripped it down to its shell lowered it etc...then i thought about a baja buggy, but wanted something a little bit bigger, hence the disco and i cant stand modern cars give me a vintage or classic car anyday one day i might aquire a series 2/3 or something. i also like the steam engine scene and the odd bit of fishing.
the rest of my time is running around after a 5 month son called ben.

The fronts were actually the A008R soft compound version. Not E marked so the MOT man always raised eyebrows!
I used A001HFR's on the back.... pre scrubbed to 3mm :D The launch off the line was awesome!
The last engine build produced just shy of 145bhp at 7200 rpm. In a car that weighed little more than an empty crisp packet, it made for interesting road use 8) :lol: We reckoned it achieved 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds. Doesn't sound much by todays standards, but it is only 1400cc.

Think I'd have to go with the Shelby GT350 in preference... but any V8 Mustang before the ugly late models would do me :D

I've got a late MG Midget too. Well technically it belongs to my Dad as I had to shift the logbook out of my name (oo sounds dodgy). I bought it around 10 years ago and within 3 weeks had blown the piston rings. Dad and I completely rebuilt the engine having had it professionally rebored. I treated it well and gave it a liberal coat of waxoyl and a dash of Slick 50. When Dad took it on 6 years ago he never drove it but garaged it until now, SORN. Every couple of months he'd fire it up drive it down the drive and back into the garage.
He's retiring in 3 months and they are just moving house so he had to move the MG. Decided he'd throw caution to the wind and have it MOT's so he can drive it and enjoy it. It failed on a light bulb, 2 tyres and a King-Pin, 2 days later after being repaired it got 12 months ticket and a new lease of life. He's well chuffed and so he should be :-) Don't think I can take it back now do you ??

I've always thought football was for pansies, all that "he tripped me up" when it is blatently obvious the other bloke was a good few feet away. Now rugby - that's a totally different matter. Footballers should try giving that a go, and see what falling down really feels like! :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Mmmm, maybe not! Worth asking for a drive though... they are a real hoot even in standard form.
I started my motorsport with autotesting in this very same car. But before the big wheels, fire breathing engine, etc. They are near perfect for chucking around the cones. They may not be the fastest car on the road, but you can actually enjoy driving at realistic speeds. To get any fun out of a modern car you have to be driving like a lunatic.

I remember when I first got it. It had oversize (or wrong size) tyres on the rear. Everytime it rained the back end stepped out, fantastic fun. Soon changed them, twaz too scary for the common highway. It pulled over 4000prm in top at 70mph and it felt like 120...ah those were the days. I wonder if I've still got a set of keys...hmmmm... :twisted:

Only got my Discovery and the family Sharan, but I've had a selection :wink:
We had an MG Midget, which I ended up rebuilding into a new shell.
I had a Triumph Trophy which we took on quite a few trips including a trip to the Alps.
And the best of all was the Triumph T595 - fan -bloody- tastic :D
