Did it for years :) but do not go caching much these days unless away somewhere. I set up a few 'greenlane' caches around here to prompt byway use.
If your new to an area (like I was in wiltshire - pretty much sat in house for 2 years with no where to go) it's an amazing hobby/sport to show you around. So many of the locations I was introduced to by Geocaching now form part of my regular life for dogs walks and scenic places to go. And with that in mind I went and set up a few caches where I grew up in favourite scenic places/walks with the hope to introduce others to those places.

btw the iphone app for geocaching.com is great ! I have used a few GPS (garmin12 - bluetooth and pda - magellan meridian, laptop) but iphone is right up there for ease, paperless caching and logging on the go.

From my knowledge, it's been going on for years, and looks to be great fun.
However, and not wishing to sound too like 'Big Brother', please be mindful of where the cache is put and in what.
I remember a job I got called to a few years ago, where the cache was in an old military artillery ammo box, that had then been hidden.
Our lot rock up, and the next thing we know, it was being classed as a 'sus package'! Lots of taxpayers spent!
The Boss wasn't impressed

No I hate to say this but there is an APP for both "I" gadgets and "droid" ones, and its free too so no its not for the idle rich, if it was I certainly wouldn't be taking part, as currently out of work :(

I was reading about one such event like this in Wetherby of all places, where the local BDU ended up doing a controlled explosion on the cache, the Geocaching Association of GB is working with the ACPO about acceptable regulations for caches, such as using well marked boxes and clear Tupperware ones etc, to try to avoid the previous situations.

I have to say when you look at the UK maps of caches I was surprised to see how many there are.
