Saw some Buggies out on the Plain yesterday think they had motorbike engines in them not sure typicaly camera in the other car, anyone know about these or Buggies in general could be a cheaper option for laning than a thirsty truck? :smiley:

Think there are 2 main contenders. One is the 'rage', can't remember the other type. Both run bike engines, if memory serves, 1's a CBR 600, the other runs a 1000 fireblade lump. Top gear had a play with both. Both are RWD and ridiculously quick, mpg will be really good unless yer caining them. I think they come in around circa 6K new.

rage are the sill fast ones, joyner are less so but still wickedly capable. i had one on demo for the farm for mustering duties very nice bit of kit but the local dealer went base over apex and i never got to ordering one.

Managed to find out a bit more on the buggies that i saw on the Plain,3 of the 5 were Rage models 450 Honda sohc motors of the others one was a Rage kit car self built with a 3 pot deisel lump the last one a 250 Honda motor chassis is a Hammerhead,i am told the cheapest way into buggies is the self build kit about

Go for as big a lump as ya can. Modern jap motors are ultra reliable, cbr 600 lumps are nigh on bullet proof.

Keeping an eye on this thread, am interested in either motorbike, quad or buggy for fun and commute and scraping funds together to that effect. I have my Series1 landy to sell or swap it for something as I would need to make room and not break the 3 vehicle rule.

Saffy if i get to borrow the 450 Buggie for the weekend i could pop over to your patch so you could try it !, cant see me getting a big multi cylinder engine surely the whole character of a revy lump is all wrong for offroading think i would prefer a single cylinder thumper with good torque band, :undecided: :grin:

You have a point, though there is a good power range on most multi's. Bigger singles can be hard to get hold of, but you'll know better what you'd prefare once you've had a run on a 450.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Had my tryout in a Buggie 600 Suzuki engine what a rippa i was told to not be afraid to give it stick so i gave it some respectfull revs and it kicked me in the ass and i spun it out ,loads of power but it did seem to all come at once think that was down to the gearing the lad that owns it said he had several sprockets and engine cogs but had only tried 2 of them, i did get used to it after a few miles of lanes, the long travel shocks/springs gave a really nice complient ride it had Suzuki Jimny 16" wheels with AT tyres but it does have a set of Quad hubs wheels that it usually sits on also impressed with the nicely padded reclining Rally seat the steering is very pointable and precise ,i was passed by a couple of lifted Disco,s and i wasnt keen on the feeling of vunrability that you get looking at the tread of a huge Mud tyre ,would i buy one? no not for any kind of road going duties loads of fun off road but a lot of money to keep as a toy,
