I have to replace my old dizzy cap, leads and rotor arm, would it be worth upgrading to one of these electronic distributors like this one:

I understand the waterproofing won

bin the whole lot and megasquirt it
fully swimproof then.
my new comp motor will be :P

If yours has point then get it done. Fatter spark, better ignition, you shouldn't regret it.
I wouldn't spend money on a point based system.

What is megasquirt?

Mega squirt is a kit-form engine management system. You can build it yourself or buy ready built parts then you progrma it yourself too though there are maps that you can download to get started.
the big plus is like the later THOR engine mamagement system it uses a 36-1 tooth wheel on the crank to detect TDC on no.1 then uses wasted spark or lost spark coil pack, ie each cylinder fires just before TDC even if it's on the exhaust stroke. This can have benifits to emissions but only slight.
Then you get to progrma all the fuelling maps too based on whatever sensors you can fit, most of what you need is on the EFi V8 anyway. the mechanical bist involve fitting the tooth wheel and counter, usually to the front pulley unless you get hold of a late P38 block with the sensor at the back and the appropraiet flywheel.
You could go halfway and fit a megajolt ignition system and leave the 14CUx in place, or cabrs if that's what you have. You would still get rid of the dizzy al together and get a much fatter spark which in itself covers up other runing problems :D
Cost a bit more though I think, especially if you need to go on the rolling road.

or if you don't spend the time up to your neck in water when driving about off road, then i would ditch the Lucas dizzy and fit a Mallory instead. Far more reliable and gives a far better spark.
