Title: Too much oil!
Post by: Jonny Boaterboy on June 28, 2010, 21:39:10
Just a quick one, I have put too much oil in the engine... about a 1.2cm over the maximum mark ........ I'm an idiot I always do it when I change the oil!

Anyway, will it do any damage to the engine?

It could blow an oil seal, permenant damage.  Drop a bit out of the oil cooler or filter as suggested.

don't run it as that would be quite silly if you have overfilled it. if it manages to build up enough pressure and get passed seals etc it will start to run on the oil and the revs will go through the roof and eventually kill the engine. or it might not be that bad and you can undo the sump plug and get rid of some.

Thanks for the advice, I drained some oil back out so it was just above the Max mark and all seems well. Thanks for your help
