I had an advisory on the disco MOT last year about the rear body crossmember starting to go, I've had a bit of a look to see whats involved and it looks like a bit of a tricky job to repair/replace, has anybody done one?
Its looks like the fuel tank will have to be dropped out, along with the rear section of exhaust, and obviously the rear bumper will have to come off and the rubber mat in the back pulled back/out.....something tells me to take the rear door off as well and to prop the wheelarches up with wood to prevent any movement????
The mot's not for a few months but it's gonna have to be done I think
I googled this job but not found any guides anywhere

back wings off to do it right, bumper obviously. Cut the crossmemebr off the floor and rear door uprights, support the back of the car and remove the crossmember form the chassis.
When you put it back don't just bolt it in lace then weld it on, you need ot take omse of the load into it before securing it, perhaps leaving the washer out of the body mount untill it's welded in place.

Thanks for the reply, but how do the rear wings remove on a disco1?

The rear quarters are bolted and glued on, real pain in the ass to remove without damage,is yours a 3 or 5 door?
-
Mines a 5 door

Not to bad to do then,
