Title: Painting ones vehicle
Post by: MuddyDiscoveryJay on May 08, 2010, 12:48:56
Hi chaps, I was just thinking about changing the colour of my beloved landy to silver (like the posh new ones). I have seen people on here who have painted their own trucks and I was wondering what method they used, did they know what they were doing from a technique point of view and what the results were like. Can anybody recommend a body sprayer in or around the Colchester/rest of Essex area.

Thankyou

James

If it's silver you will probably need a 2-stage clear-on-base process.  I think most sprayers still use 2-k for the laquer which is bad stuff, I have used a 1-pack laquer but it gives you a satin finish that atkes a lot of polishing to a shine.  Also clear-on-base can peel after a while if you don't prepare well before the laquer.

With the price of paint these days I doubt you'll get a decent job for cheaps, ours cost £1,800 or thereabouts to respray in 2-k solid red.
