Does any body know how fitting 325.70x16in tyres on 10x16in wheels in place of the existing 235.75x16in tyres on 7x16in alloys will effect the gearing and speedo on a disco auto 3.9 V8 1998 ?. If I need to how can I get over the problems?.

You can work it out, the 325 is the width of tread, the 75 is the aspect ratio so the sidewall is 75% of 325. Add that to 8 inches, the radius of the rim and you have the rolling radius.
Big tyres, the obvious fix is a Defender transfer box.

Range Rover blues thanks for the reply, any particular Defender transfer box to fit ie V8 ,300,200 ,90 or 110,or could I get the gears
changed?.

The Disco is about 1.22:1 the RRC hadabout 1.202 which is even worse. Defenders had 1.4 or thereabouts and some (possibly military) had 1.6, they are going to be rarer. Then you have specials from people like Ashcrofts.

Is it feasible to change the gearing of the diffs?.Just read the manual it reads that the complete transmission has to be removed to
change the transfer box, a bit more than I feel capable of doing .If I start spending out to have the gearbox removed and replaced on a car I apparently bought to cart the dogs around, because I fitted bigger wheels questions will be asked. It looks easier (I may be wrong) to remove the diffs and get someone to change the gearing.

Yes, Ashcrofts make 3.9:1 diff pinion sets, but that menas a diff rebuild too and then you are running non-standard parts if you bust one.
I'm not too familiar with the TD5 but on D1 you drop the back end of the gearbox and the T-box can be removed on it's own.
Is it still the LT230, I thought it was :-k
