I looking but cant find, a receiver hitch type tow bar for my 93 discovery. Just got the Terrafirma catalogue through with this months LRO mag. But cant seem to find it or one like it any where. Any ideas to who makes one?
Cheers Adam

what type do you need i have a brand new disco one for sale cheap.

Ive no rear recovery point at the moment. But liked the look of the 2" receiver type as it looks like it wont turn in to a plough (can remove the ball and replacve with a recovery point). Im not intending to tow a trailer/caravan, just cars at track days, and getting pulled out when im stuck!

Well Ive found some one that makes what i was looking for, Extreme 4x4. However for the price im comtemplatind a guardien tank guard with detachable tow point. Are they any good?

I've a Guardian tank guard on mine. It's very sturdy and weighs a flipping tonne...!!!! It's been used to recover plenty of stranded vehicles in it's time and tows our twin axle caravan with ease. The drop plate is a very tight fit and the whole unit is completely solid once connected. The only thing I've had to do was to cut a couple of inches off the bottom for the towball drop plate as it was far to near the ground for my liking as my Disco is still on standard height suspension.
Apart from that it's top notch.

They do look solid. How do they fix on, as where the tie down brackets fix, whats left of them is rusted in.

They fix on to the same locating points as the standard towbar would. So thats the two in the rear cross member and the two on the chassis. As you said, where the standard lashing points are, it's a bit fiddly as you only have a small slot in the tank guard to be able to get the nut up through the hole. If your standard bolts are seized in place (mine were) then you'll have to try and heat them up and hope for the best. Thankfully mine came out.

Looks like ill be getting the blow torch out then!

A quick and cheap remedy for the "plough" is cut it down and redrill towbar holes as high as possible, you can gain 6' to 8" of clearance .

I've a Guardian tank guard on mine.
I've a SouthDown guard.... basically the same thing.
I've a drop-plate for a 50mm towball, a plate for a NATO hitch, and the recovery ring.
I've landed on it hard a few times, and recovered (and been recovered) from the rear. I can't fault it.
