are the blocks the same also what diffrences are there between the engines?

Blocks are the same, no real difference in power all you may need to change are some studs for the gearbox.

The fronts are different ie cam belt/housing,water pump and exhaust manifolds .

I'm guessing he means the cast block not the alloy add ons??? timimg cover etc...

they are different, the actuall block is the same but from there it differs. i replaced my defender 200tdi with a disco one when i killed it and there was many differences. timing case is different puttin injector pump in a different place. all the manifolds are different so i used the defender ones and made up new brackets for alternator and power steering pump.
