I mostly run with XZL on the Defender, they and the goodyear G90's are what the MOD use.
They are a hard wearing, good all round tyre which can take a lot of abuse but by no imagination an 'extreme mud' tyre. They are more like an extreme AT tyre :)  I found them fine for rocky terrain of lakedistrict, roads/moterways and for light to moderate greenlaning in Wiltshire's mud but they do not have that extra 1/2inch of tread my anaconda's have and that what I put on if I know I am mud plugging.

used mine ayt a a play day a couple of weeks ago, only once was i held up by lack of grip, most of the time it was the  long whgeel base causing me to be stuck, this was despite the heavy rain and deep mud, theyve also been good in the snow, and decent on the road
