Title: Age old question
Post by: Tiki Al on June 14, 2009, 12:34:29
Right I'm going to do a 2" lift to my defender 90 but am confused as to who's springs and shocks to fit.

do i go for the Paddock's kit with Britpart springs and ES9000 shocks ?

or Terrafirma's medium lift kit ?

there's so many options and variations available, anyone got a set-up they would reccomend ?

Go with Old Man Emu - there worth the extra money.

Did have Bearmach and Procomp originally, but binned them as the weren't up to the job.

OME are probably the best readily avalible, after market, springs and dampers in the UK. However I've been using various combinations of Britpart, Bearmach, Procomp, Rough Country and OE springs + dampers and they have done me well for the money. Britpart springs are the only ones I wouldn't buy again.

It doesn't matter which brands you go for, to get thew best out of them the springs and dampers specifications should be suited to your requirements. What are your requirements other than to raise the ride height 2 inches?

What do you do with the vehicle and how much do you do it, do you want much more suspension travel or about the same, has the vehicle got much extra weight added (HD bumpers etc.), are you trying to creaste space for bigger tyres, what is your budget?

well to start with the springs need changing because the previous owner fitted different size springs to the front axle, also i'm going to be swapping the rear axle to a disc breaked one, so as it's apart i may as well fit a 2" lift at the same time ( to save stripping it all down again at a later date )

I want to raise the ride height for off roading and to enable fitment of larger tyres ( at a later date )

It won't have a winch or anything heavy at the moment but you never know  ;)

Not got a great deal budget wise probebly about 450
