MY Disco 2 TD5 will not run at low revs its been in!!!!! Been plugged in £120.00 later with a new wire to the injectors is still no better stalls on biting point at lights, its a real pain Yes it runs really well once your on the move but low revs is a bag of spanners Its been to 2 different garages with 2 compleatly different answers to my problems its a 1999 td5 land rover not the top of the range sports car !!!! Tell you what if you sort this for me ie Advice I will send you FREE a set of my top of the range Bushcables to fit your Discovery + Brackets if you need them ,please help!!!!! the wife is not happy at all regards kurt

Sounds like an odd issue, it's likely a fuelling issue, but could equally be a screwed up ECU. If it were me, I'd take it to a tuning specialist who can play around with the ECU's fuelling a bit. However things like the injector loom (while a common problem) and the tank high pressure pump wouldn't normally be an issue at idle :)

120 quid for a Diag is way OTT main steeler?, if so I hope they re diag'd it after fitting the injector loom, and cleared any faults left in that department. As Cyberprog states it sounds like a fueling issue, you can check the intank pump sort of by turning your ignition on, you should hear the pump kick in, its located behing the rear drivers wheel. It should sound even without pulses it stays on for a few secs then goes off, its not a hard and fast check but it should give you some idea of if its operating correctly. The second bit to check is the fuel pressure regulator, its located on the drivers side rear of the engine, you will need to take the engine plastic cover off to see this, usually you can smell the diesel leaking, and in really bad cases you will see a puddle on the floor, if this is so then this will need replacing. Might also be worth checking when the fuel filter was replaced or if there is any water in it? Also check the connections to the ECU under the battery cover, in some bad case the oil in the injector loom can seep right the way down the loom to these connectors, this causes alsorts of interesting problems. If this is the case clean it out with brake cleaner and try that. Good luck.

You can buy an OBD II diagnostic reader for about £25 on ebay (including postage), I think the Disco 2 uses that?
It sounds very like the symptoms my 300TDI displayed when the fuel lift pump was broken, but I don't know whether the TD5 has a lift pump? Could also be worth checking the fuel filter/sedimenter (if fitted on TD5s).

might it be a problem with the dual mass flywheel on the engine? friend of mine had one that ran like a bag of spanners and spent loads trying to diagnose the fault with the fuel system, then went to a local independent who said it was the flywheel failing causing the engine to run out of balance and give the ecu a nightmare trying to cope with it, he replaced the flywheel and its been fine ever since
