Right mines bent, so how easy are they to replace :?:
Also I'm sure I've seen mentioned on here where you can fit the 90/110 set up to a Discovery which would mean they are then out the way :?:
Am I right in thinking this, and what parts are needed :?:
Off for the MOT tomorrow, but I don't think a bent track rod is part of the MOT :?:

The only thing I can find in my manual is:
a component fractured, or cracked, damaged,
excessively corroded or deformed so that it is
unserviceable
As it is still serviceable you will be ok,
If it's spotted they will give you a advisory note
about it being bent, It's not a reason for failure
providing it's not affecting the steering.
You can point them at Section 2.2 of the testers
manual if you have any problems. :wink:

It's only slightly bent but noticable I shall mention it when I drop the Discovery off in the morning.

my mot tester said i cant be trying hard enough as he couldnt find anything bent :lol:

My hybrids track rod look like a bllody banana and has done for years and no one has ever picked that up, not even advisory.
Means either they are not bothered or maybe my MOT place is just absolute rubbish. Oh well, as long as you get the ticket!

My disco is now on the defender/110 setup
I got the parts from a 93 110.
You'll need the pitman arm, the drag link and the damper
Then get all the service parts and refurb the whoel thing
I was lucky since my steering guard bracket happened to just in the right place to drill out and act as the damper bracket.
Only thing that is difficult is gettign the pitman arm off, i was lucky since i picked up a proper puller 2nd hand for a fiver so the whole job took about 15 mins.
I've since replaced both the track rod with a QT heavy duty its standing up very well
However i wish i'd bought the pair since i bent the drag link yesterday - poo-sticks

As Paul said the main things will be a busted joint internally or a split rubber. Only thig it may effectis the tracking depending which one is bent

Well it was indeed picked up at the MOT, Track rod bent/distorted, fouling diff + n/s anti roll bar :evil:
Also excess play in O/S/F wheel bearing, N/S/R brake binding and N/S/R outer pad dropped out of caliper causing rubbing on hub.
So new rear brake caliper, new rear pads, remove track rod and straighten.
All in including MOT test and MOT service charge (what ever that is) and labour £287.96 :cry:
That's me not going out for a few months now :(

It must be more than a little bent Andy. It would fail if it was fouling the diff.

It was Ed, it was the new caliper that did the damage along with the bolts being siezed, hense the high labour costs.

Andy I'd strongly advise not refitting the track rod after you straighten it
Mine was bent, i restraightened it, then i tried to do a 3 point turn with one of the front wheels fouled and it just twisted up like a banana, i'm glad i wasn't doing anything silly or at high speed at the time
Buy a new one and be safe.

Cheers for the advice Andy, I shall be keeping a close eye on it.
I did ask whether or not it shoild really be replaced, and I got a no it will be OK, so I know where I'm going if it goes again.
