at the moment I have about 60cd's and 20 songs on the pc.

I will try media player and then nero. I think I have nero already. Do I need special cd's to burn them onto or just plain normal cd's?

Before you rip anything onto your pc using media player make sure its set to rip to MP3 format
Otherwise you'll have a load of song's in .wav that might not play and is a waste of disc's

Ah cheers.  :D

I guess I also need to download all the cd's onto the pc then burn them onto mp3 ones then delete them all back off the pc?

How many cd's can you get onto a mp3?

All depends on the length of the album
Some are 30min and you can get 12/13 of those
Some albums are 109mins and you'll only get 5/6 of those

an average MP3 song is about 5mb.. so a 700 mb cd can hold 140 songs, average album has 10 songs - so 14 albums .. BUT you can also lower the quality, so in theory 200 songs should be possible.. Aldi and Lidl do MP3 cd/memory card players - so you can chuck a 2gig SD card in  and listen to your entire collection (well OK not mine, as I have over 5 terrabites of music  8-[ )

this is a WHOLE new world to me!! cd/memory card player?

The only reason I am asking is my new car has a mp3 cd player in and am thinking if I can work out how to set the radio to do random on 6 cd's with 6 albums on each, that should keep me going for a long time with no stupid dj's or adverts!!!

well I have copied 24 cd's to my pc today choosing the songs I like from each cd and not downloading the rest. some cd's only had 3 songs on, some had all but 1 song on. I have managed to get all the cd's onto 1 mp3 and a few other random songs I had space for. All very groovey. I will have to do the rest of my cd's tomorrow! Very time consuming though. I reckon 2 more mp3 cd's should probably do it.

Ripping cd's does take a while
I brought a 1Tb external hard drive a while ago and it took ages to rip all mine, wifes, childrens cd's in to it.
Over 350 cd's later iTunes now manages my music
