I have 300TDi and i was wondering where i can find my wading plugs?
Also should i remove them if they are there as i VERY rarely go in deep water for prolonged periods of time?
Any help much appreciated

Hi Martin, on my 200TDi 1 is in the bottom of the bell housing and 1 in the bottom of the timing chest, I would imagine the same for a 300tdi, 13mm socket needed.
I ran without them in for ages but I started doing more deep water wading so now keep them in and remove them once a month or the day after some deep stuff.

Whether you go wading or not they will need removing atleast every once in a while to make sure oil isn't leaking into the bell housing and building up round the clutch. A friend left his plugs in for about a year and some crud still got into the bell housing and caused his clutch to sieze.

Later 300 TDi don't have the timing case wading plug. They have a built in breather and very small drainage hole.

My 300 has two 10mm ones.
One at the bottom of the timing cover, and one in the bell housing.

Hello all,
Basically you should run around with out the plugs in in normal conditions,
as stated above, there needs to be a release if any leaks develope around the clutch/drive shaft area seals.
If you go through the odd bit of water, more splash than river beds then you will probably get away without fitting plugs.
If you intend to go into deeper water for longer periods then plugs are advised.
Just take a look under the engine and bell housing,
you will see a 13mm threaded hole in the bottom of the timing case (front of engine) and the same on the bottom of the bell housing.
Some TDi's have only the bell housing holes, some have bell housing and timing cover holes, TD5's do not have any.
The plug is usually a square drive bolt head at 10mm, you will need a 10mm openended spanner as a socket or ring spanner will not fit the square drive.
You can pick them up at the shows or sort outs.
