Title: Torque Settings

I will need to take one of the heads off the v8 over the weekend, but will need to know the torque settings to tighten it back down when refitting!

if i remember rightly its 30 nm an then its 60 degs an then another 60 degs

It means that you torque them down to the setting then go round again in sequence turning each one extra flat (60 degrees) and once that is done you do exactly the same again for another flat.

IE a total torque of 30nm plus turn them by an extra 1/3 of a turn but not all at the same time

easy way to do it is get some tipex an mark the corner of a bolt an the head when u done em up 30 nms an then every side of the bolt is 60 degs so as long as u tighten bolt up to the next point on the bolt that will be 60 degs or otherwise spend 3.50 an buy a degree dial that attaches to your torque wrench

Check what bolts you've got first. If there's 5 stars on the head of the bolt, do it the angle way. Remember to centre punch one of the stars on each bolt. They can be used 5 times but 3 is the usual recommendation. If not, centre and inner bolts 65-70 lbf ft (88-95 Nm), outer(officially) 40-45 lbf ft (54-61 Nm), unofficially 40 Nm as they can warp the heads (later v8's didn't have these outer bolts).

I was going to say, yu don't angle-torque the V8 because it doesn't use stretch bolts.  "normal" bolts can be re-used, the outer row I tighten to 30nm, just better than hand-tight and use threadlock, just so that they fill the holes.  You can leave them off but I wouldn't advise it on an old head unless you have it skimmed.

You should be using Locktight thread lubricant/threadlock too BTW.

Its ok, cos i dont think the head is coming off! lol

Its was supposed to be heli coiled today but me starter packed in yesterday!  Battery was also having some problems so bought a new battery and a new starter - only problem is the starter is a 1.7kw not a 1.4kw!!!

Not a probelm if it fits though is it? 1.7kw, you realise that's a couple of horsepower don't you?

Amen mate!!

The worst thing is i have to spend the money out on this one.  I promised meself i wouldnt just sell it on when it started getting problematic like have the other ones!

So now i am paying out fortunes!!  Thank god the credit card limit got raised by a grand on the last statement lol

You always find you buy someone else's probelms with a second hand car, no one thinks "hey, it's running greatm flew the MOT, uses No fuel, costs Nowt to insure, I know I'll sell it and buy something rubbish".

Work though it and it'll be good and you'll know it's fixed therefore reliable.

Not yet, but i am going to have some before and after pics over the next week or so, as i am going to fit some bits on it :D

So then you will see!

Externally its not all that bad, laquer peeling off on the bonnet (am thinking black hammerite will fix that before the big yellow splat gets stuck on) and some red oxide sprays on the rear tailgate!

Weirdest thing is this is the first rangie auto i have had where the centre gear shift surround doesnt move and actually lights up!! lol

Peeling bonnets seem to be comon, I wonder if it's resprayed ones though :-k
