Post by: Stifford on March 06, 2005, 10:39:13
Ive just bought an sj 410. whats the biggest tyre size i can fit on the 15 inch wheels.
I have 235/70/16 amazons on my Landy. Would they fit on or do i have to use 195/70/75/80/85...??
I want to fit the biggest i can without catching on turning . thanx

the tyres fitted on the SJ413 we have is 195/70/15 and there is no modification to it.

They dont rub anywhere and work fine

One other thing worth mentioning, insurance companies could be a bit stroppy if you put 'non-standard' tyres on the motor. Always try to stay within recommended guidelines for the vehicle

Sorry Robbie

But have to dis-agree.

I have a few mods - alloys and large tyres - all declared on my insurance.

Fully comp - £123

With all mods listed.

Oh, and 215 x 15 are as big as you can go without chopping the front bumper off - which is a pretty standard mod

yeeh I guess they can be fine too, until something happens and they dont want to ay out!!.

I also agree that any mod should be mentoned to the ins Co, just to keep it on the right line :)

Have a look in the various 4x4 mags ,there are quite a few specialised insurance companys that deal with modded 4x4's ,some don't add anything extra to your premium and you can update your policy without charge  8) .I have heard of a few people make claims on there policy and had no problems.

Some would say 195/15 is the biggest ,I had 215/15 on mine as a standard SJ. Mine is a SJ410 1988 model ,could it be that SJ's run a differant size to a Samurai, I don't know ,never had one. What have you got ?

I'll do a photo when it stops raining

i'm afraid to say that sj and samurai are different... you can fit 195's on sj and up to 215 on samurais (they have a slightly wider track).

However you can extend the steering limiting bolt on the truck (or undo them to the full extent) this will help you to fit up to 215's on an sj but will increase your turning circle. Or obtain some 2" lifting shackles. I think popeye has 2" lifting shackles so ask him about them...

The other thing to do it get mr angry the angle grinder out and take a bit off your bumper to stop to catching...

Or try wheel spacers as this will give you back your turning circle...

Rhinocentral do some nice ones

http://www.rhinocentral.co.uk/

Have a look at the site, they also do lift kits a a good price. The D flex system is quality!!

Also, try ebay...

Dave

Oh yeah, spacers are well easy to fit... bolt the sleeve bolts over the stub bolts your wheel bolt on to. Line them up, put on the spacer and put the wheel on with your original bolts...
