Title: Anyone fitted a Scorpion (sorry) HD rear bumper.....
Post by: Disco-Ron on December 11, 2008, 17:47:44
I've just taken delivery of a second hand one off ebay, and i was expecting there to be some sort of central bracket that would bolt to the two big bolts through the rear cross member, but there's no bracket...... just the two holes for the normal bolts on the outside of the chassis legs....... i don;t fancy trusting a recovery point or hi lift simply on those two bolts.....

Reckon i'll be making up and extra bracket then..... still, gives me something to do over xmas....

When my dad put a hd rear bumper on his disco there was a bracket that bolted to the rear cross member with them to bolts like u say then the bumper bolts to that using four bolts and then there was two at the side of the chassis that the bumper bolts to.

As i suspected..... i've asked the seller.... if he doesn't have it, i'll just have to get the welder and big hammer out!!

Thanks!

Why not try around, I fitted one that needed this bracket, is it not the bracket thats used for the standard towbar assembly?

This is what I used for the centre mountings, may just be lucky with this bumper, as I dont know the make of it

Just looked at my old towbar, and i might be able to modify the bracket somehow..... maybe, but it might be too thick for the size of my hammer...LOL!!!

I've got one....

In the last picture you can just see the bracket under the bumper. It pushes on from the rear and bolts through the cross member (the recovery point goes on first if you use one). The bumper then uses four bolts to fix in the centre and two at the outside.

Ditto all the above.

As Gav says, I have his old one.

The bracket you are missing is one serious piece of metal, it weighs a ton! I have been prepping and painting mine before fittin it so I can take a pic of the bracket if you want? Might take me a day or two to post it (very busy at present), so let me know if I need to bother or not :)

Hi Stu, well, i certainly don;t have the bracket, and the fact that the bumper was 2nd hand probably means that the seller doesn't have it either, so a picture would be most useful, either post it here, or mail it to me at ronnie_hogg@yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks!!

Thanks for the above pictures Rob... most helpfull....!!

Thanks for the assistance guys, much appreciated...!!

I rang scorpion to give me an idea of the cost of a completely new bumper, they're 265 + vat...... i reckon i should have just bought the new one...... i paid 200 for this 2nd hand one, thats been blasted zinc coated and then powder coated..... but, missing what is probably the most important part...LOL!

Why didn't i just buy a new one to start with...ARGH!!!!!

Update, heard back from seller, parts being sent monday...:)
