Title: transfer box problem
Post by: Mad-Dog-McCarthy on December 08, 2008, 15:08:38
Hi, i have a 300tdi disco that i bought a few weeks ago, but the transfer box is stuck in high, possibally through lack of use, i have used two cans of wd40, and a rubber mallet to try and free it, but no luck. Can anybody tell me if this is a common problem? and is there a easy fix to this? would be much appreciated, many thanks in advance. DOG

Yes it is a common problem, so don't worry. What I would say is that you need to be careful how much force you employ. Try using Plusgas rather than WD40 on the linkages and leave it to soak for a bit.

Does the diff lock lever work? Quite often that can be seized too.

dont use too much force, ive cracked the selecter plate before now

which lead to a huge oil leak

you may be-able to get at the linkage from the top of the tunnel, if not you may have to drop the boxes
