my missis rrc has now got worse
it just about starts but is overfulling big time
as sugested im gona try the temp sensor
witch one do i need , the one on the termostat is the one for the gauge ?
where is the ecu cold start /temp sensor ?
-
The location may have changed on later EFI v8s but this is where it is on my 1987 RRC EFI v8
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/v8engine/images/ld27a.gif
The temp sensor for the ECU is fitted vertrically to the inlet manifold to the left (as viewed from behind the vehicle) of the thermostat and is the rear most of the 2 sensors. If memory serves my right it can be a bit of an awkward job to remove due to other stuff getting in the way.
-
that looks the same as ours , cheers i shall check it out 2morow
-
IIRC it's the same as the 3.5, identified by having a 2 pin plug on it just like an injector and IIRC the same temp sensor as used in the fuel rail. You can check the sensor if you have a multimeter and a copy of the Haynes manual.

temp sensor in the fuel rail ?
i now know where the temp sensor is on the manifold
take it either temp sensor could make it over fuel ?
iv a muiltimeter but no haynes , how do u test it ?
-
You test the reisitance when cold, then heat it up and measure it asit drops, lok for it going open circuit as it heats or the reading not changing. IIRC the fule temp sensor iff fitted is at the front of the fuel rail, you may not have one on a flapper EFi.
-
cheers i shall have a go at that 2morow
i tryed staring it again today , it fired but was running like a bag of crap
sounded like is was only on a few cylinders and poping
its worse now than when it got parked up last week , at least it ran on cylinders
-
If it's a flapper then check the injector resistor pack, under the airbox bracket.

i know its got the injector resistor pack , i have 2 spare ones that came with the truck so shall try swapping that
-
just had a play with it
not tested the temp sensor yet , looking at it it looks new ! i know that dosent meen it [!Expletive Deleted!]
i changed the resistor pack , cleaned the plugs again and she fired
it still wasnts right tho , the conections on the airflow meter were not that good , think that was half the problem
its now running quite nice , tick over is just under 1000 rpm and it revs fine
it still pops lots when its reved and let to run down , so may still be over fueling
also noticed that theres more oil in it !!!!!!!! way above the max line and it smells of fuel , so think i shall change the oil before i do any more to it
-
Fuel in the oil can be caused by chronic over-fuelling, sort it out before it leads to bore-wear.

i think thats whats happend , all this messing around trying to start it with it overfueling
im gona be dropping the oil 2morow so i shall see what its doing after it has fresh oil , didnt want to run it for to long or drive it 2day with the oil as it was
-
i realy dont get this
yesterday it was running ok again
when out to start it 2day , started fine
then after 30 secs or so it started missing , spluttering
its fine one min and running like crap the next ????
i wonder if i have a ecu problem
gona get narked of in a min and set fire to it ..........
-
the water temp sensors are about £7 from memory, i replaced the one on mine...took about 5 mins.

Remind me, have you checked the coil and dizzy amp unit? it sounds like mine did when the coil went.

iv not checked these
im gona borrow a mates coil and give it a go
the way its miss firing now leads me to think its a spark problem
if it runs its not on all cylinders
iv changed the plugs , again the cap and rota arm look new
will try again next week but im losing interest
-
Lot sof dodgy caps and arms out there, some in Lucas boxs
-
well at last iv sorted the missis truck
after trying temp sensors , air flow meter , extra air valve , plugs leads cap , resistor pack , its turned out to be the ecu !
must have started to brake down , somtimes it ran fine and others not
