Basically i replaced my slave cylinder on early disco one..but can't get a spanner on to the bleed nipple because the hydraulic pipe goes right over the top.. how else are you supposed to do it? buy a different pipe?

*note* i also have a leak where the hydraulic pipe threads into the slave cylinder... can i solve this with tefflon tape? or will brake fluid corrode through it.

Personally I would be tempted to remake that pipe so that it was longer and use new ends in the hope of eliminating the leak.
It could be a dodgy thread in the cylinder, you may have cross threaded the pipe fitting or there could be some dirty in the cylinder where the pipe 'seats'. Either way take it apart and have a good look.

but surely landrover couldn't have been that stupid when they made this? :-.
don't know where to start on making one...
-
a gentle bend downwards should sort it
-
you know what that is a very logical thing to do...
-
turn the cylinder round and it should be clear to get a spanner on to it then
-
It also has the wrong bleed nipple on it.
The original one is nearly flush with the housing.

Sometimes the simplest things get overlooked...... yeh, simply turn the cylinder through 180 degrees, and then the nipple will be clear, that might even be why the pipe is leaking aswell....
-
check the part number could be the wrong one
-
had a look at the old one.. and the bleed nipple is the same length.. :-k

Hi.
Try your local genuine parts store. For small parts like the pipe and bleed nipple they are reasonably priced.
If the threads are ok in the slave cylinder then by fitting 2 new parts you know you have the right parts in the right place.
Cheers, Dan

True, but could also crack the pipe.
It looks too short to me. I know, probably came out of the factory like that, but no reason not to 'improve' the breed :)

Difficult to tell looking at the photo ref thread sizes but it's not a case of someone has screwed the bleed nipple into the wrong hole is it?
-
i could swith them over.. but then that would mean that the bleed nipple is on the top. and wouldn;t be able to get all the air out of the system.

Sorry to say this, but the bleed nipple is SUPPOSED to be at the top...!!! air rises, simple as that!!!! you'll never get all the air out of it if the nipple is not at the top...!!!

it looks like someones put a new pipe on, mines easy to bleed, but theres no pipe in the way

sorry i meant on the bottom.. the nipple is already at the top atm.

One way I saw on a series, was to fit a brake pipe in the bleed hole and run it up to a more accessible point, mount it to the bell housing or somewhere on the engine/gearbox via a plate, then fit a nipple on the end pipe

When you do get to the point of no leaks etc be warned I ended up pressure bleeding the slave cylinder on my 90. No matter how much we tryed it wouldn't bleed in the normal way.

There is another method, but wont help this problem, is reverse bleeding
Use something like a washing up liquid bottle and pipe attached, put it on the bleed nipple and push the fluid up until the resevoir is clear of bubbles :)

lol ^^
well basically the situation is that.. there is a tiny gapr where the screw bit and the flared out pipe meet... so i need a new pipe. only bad news is it is not the standard size as modern cars today.. and Rogers of Bedford are useless idiots.. so don't know where i am going to source this pipe.
on the up size it will be redesigned so that it is not stupid. :D

If the nipple is a 10 mm it maybe wrong they should be a 11mm and if it is a moden bleed screw they dont sit true at base i have had it be4 on a caliper go to local dealer and get a 11mm one and the pipe has been bent up dout you will bent it down best to get a new one should be pennys
