Hi, Can someone advise me on the Biggest Alternator I can fit to my G Reg 1989 range rover classic and is possible the part number, cheers. Ben

Well in theory the biggest will be the biggest you can find, but I'm running a 100 amp unit form a newer '93 SE with all the toys, these had a different drive belt as the 10 mm vee belt will burn up in hours. I'm using a 13mm drive belt with no problems so far, but I'm keeping an eye on it.
The soft dash had the "interim" engine with serpentine belt, again these were 100 amp but a 4 lug body, these would easily run 140a plus though and IIRC some TDis were 120amp.

So I Could use a newer 100 amp and use a 13mm drive belt and it will fit? cheers. Ben

Yes I found with a bit of wangling the drive belt lined up. You need the puilley form the 65 amp unit (mine had an 80 :evil:) and I also had to fit the spacer behind the PAS pulley, but that should have been there anyway. A bit of shuffling of washers and bingo :).
Just make sure when you buy it the alternator runs smooth, mine doesn't so now I know it fits i have to swap it.
