Hi
Can anyone tell me what is onvolved in replaceing the valve stem seals on a 2.25 diesel engine, is it something that someone with limited knowledge could attempt.
My engine is smokey, not at tickover but when you give it some throttle the smoke is a light bluey grey,
any thoughts

You need to take the head off i think to got to the valves, then you will probably need a valve compressor, its not the end of the world job as long as your systematic with it, depends how goo dyou are i guess and if you have haynes manual and follow it its not too bad

If it was the seals it would smoke on start up, slow idle on overrun and maybe normal idling if it's leaking badly. By the sounds it's something else, bluey grey could be combination of oil and also incorrect timing.

Hi Rich
Thanks for the reply, where would you suggest I start,

Timing. Once you are certain that it's right, then look elsewhere. Is it breathing heavily or not?
