I have a car transporter/plant trailer that I may re-floor as the current stuff (aly plate in 2 strips, roughly cut and mixed types) is a bit rubbishy.
The trailer is around a 2.8ton rating (based on hitch and construction as its not stamped), its main job will be taking my Elise (750kg) out to sprints, but also it has already brought my Grey Fergie home (1.2 ton?) and mybee a rally or something and may have to take my Series 3 to the fixers (or scrap yard). It also gets used for lugging farm implements like a harrow/topper and picking up antique furniture from auctions and other stuff like building materials etc.
Now the question is.
- Would 9mm Marine ply be ok
Would 2-3 mm Ally chequer plate be ok/affordable
What about "rhino board" or something for a non slip on top?
Any other ideas (links to suppliers/examples appreciated)

I know that my voluntary group are getting a new beavertail lorry and that is having a wood base. Would, wood be an option? I think it will have grooves like decking wood for grip and was told it is lighter than metal base and easier to replace.

Better to be a bit more over chunky than needed. 12 - 18 mill WBP ply should do the trick neatly.

wisatrans
19mm will be just fine and has a grip pattern on it.

Any ideas where to get Wisatrans from does it go by any other name. WBP looks a good alternative.

I second the marine ply.
Im a chippy and i have often seen wbp (far eastern) ply de laminate after being left outside for just a couple of days.
I would go for marine ply paint with some anti slip paint if it was my trailer.

Marine ply is good but wisatrans is better for the purpose. I spec trailers and used most types of floor from ally- through to birch
wisatrans....what it is

I would agree with Dave - phenolic ply is superb stuff.
We use it for cassette floor systems and rate it at 500kgs per m2 (rating includes the subframe for the floor system..)
If you only want something that will stand up to occasional use with anti-slip properties, you could use marine ply and then finish it with Sandtex or similar external masonry paint with added gritty bits.
Cheap to apply periodically, and will give superb non-slip properties

Ill have a look for some wistrands, main issue is it may get knackered wiht stuff on it despite its strength so a "sacrificial" ply floor may be the way to go.

£38 for 18mm marine ply ! WHERE ???
Dear round our way.
That would be my choice as most PRO car trailers use this.
Ally chequer is ok but would need decent marine ply underneath .

We just hired a trailer to pick up my Dads massey 35 and that had 18mm laminated ply on it .It did'nt bow at all with the massey on it.
