We have some sprinkler contractors in at work at the mo installing some new sprinkler pipes and one of them owns a RR P38 if I right :?:
Anyway he has noticed the Discovery in the carpark and has asked for some advice.
He has an LPG tank fitted where the spare wheel used to be now wants to know where the best place is to put the spare :?:
He has cream interior so is a bit worried about his carpets, any suggestions :?:

What about losing the petrol tank, or a swing away carrier on the back, or roof mounted

Don't put it on the roof.... worst thing you can do with a spare.
A rear swingaway would be the favourite candidate I guess.

A lot of instalers are now stocking this tyre slime that coats the inside and prevents defaltion from puntures up to 6mm, so you don't need a spare. One benifit is longer tyre life because it claims the coating helps keep the rubber cool, heat build-up being the killer for tyres.
About £30 for a can that won't quite do all 4 tyres for us guys.

you don't need a spare for the MOT, just if you have one it must be in a servicable condition...
didn't spot them not noticing my spare is a different size :) the benefits of having a mud-club wheel cover I guess :)

That's right, you don't have to have one but you can't have a f***d one, if it's fitted as a spare it must be roadworthy, if it isn't leave it loose, it's luggage!
In the RRC you can't fit a tyre bigger than 205 into the spare holder anyway, not without modifying the floor so I'm putting an upright LPG tank in there and doing without a spare for all but long journeys, when I'll tie it to the dog-guard. When I'm towing it goes in the trailer.

You could always mount one on the front, like the Pink Panther series 3's and some of the military defenders have, would look different though

If he doesnt use it for greenlaneing etc, if i was him ide take it back to the company who installed the l.p.g tank and ask them if they could exchange it for a sill type tank therefore he can use the spare wheel recess again. If the gas kit was fitted before he purchased the Rangie the cost of fitting a under belly tank shouldnt be that much. And it would look better than haveing a swingaway wheel carrier on the rear.
But thats just my opinion... :D

I,ve got a 90 ltr tank across the back. Theory being how often do you fill the boot (back) No sill tanks to worry about and still have spare wheel space. However I do agree with RRB about this run flat stuff (if its good enough for the Paris Dakar)

My ranger has a 90ltr tank just behind the back seats and the spare slots in like a dream. it looks quite cool aswell. the swinger arm is a fab idea I looked at getting one, but as my engine has blown up I dont think I will bother now. DAM GAS CONVERTION. :x
