Title: Steering problem
Post by: MICK on August 23, 2008, 18:57:05
Has anyone got any idea why the steering on my 2000 Disco TD5 would feel really heavy when steering to the right but when steering to the left feels very light, to light infact. I have recently had a recon steering box fitted and am taking the Disco back to garage early next week but would appreciate some ideas as to what the problem might be just incase they try to fob me off.

Maybe the box is way off centre?

An early box should be IIRC 2 full turns from left full lock (steering disconnected) to centre.  Later boxs have a 7mm hole and a matching cut out in the drop arm.  Once the steering is connected that amountof travel is limited by the axle lock-stops.  If the drag link is too short then the steering would be stiffer to the right and easier to the left.
