Title: Fitting a v8
Post by: baron von ledwidge on August 12, 2008, 13:38:21
Im thining of fittign a v8 to my series 3 i have been offered an engine with conversion to fit is there much else i need to think about?  It will be a carb model.  and i guess i will need a fuel pump, and to change the gearbox housing somehow, what other common issues are there and how do you get round them.

Passenger footwell needs modifying to clear the nearside exhaust manifold on the V8, a new exhaust system is required, a remote oil filter, and general ignition system will need to have the Rover V8 components fitted in place of the standard 2.25 components.  The conversion kit should include a conversion ring to mate up the S3 bellhousing to the engine and also a set of engine mount brackets that bolt onto the existing standard 2.25 engine mounts.

You will need to possibly source an alternative radiator, particularly if the V8 had a long nose water pump fitted.  The SD1 radiator fits quite nicely if you use a pair of metal brackets to hang it from the top of the front radiator panel.  An electric cooling fan is more than likely going to be required as well.

That's just off the top of my head, there are bound to be many other small little details along the way.

not too deep :) i got it for my series 2 and got it 2/3 done before getting my Bobtail. I have now decided to sell the series with 2 1/4 re fitted and so the V8 can go to a good home with most of the bits to fit already sourced.

I have a donor RRC that has a V8 wit the pump rad hoses etc.

give me a shout if you are interested.

Rich.
