OK a question for the advanced drivers on here- have just passed the test and also got my blues and twos licence so which insurance companies do you use? I have spoken with the NFU but they will give me no discounts and having been with them for six years am deeply dissapointed as we were told it would effect our insurance in a nice way,any info would be nice thanks. Oh and i did like the Volvo V70 T5 that we drove.

I did my ROSPA Advanced Motorcycle Test (Gold Standard) back in the 90's. Absolutely no insurers would offer me any discounts at all!
What a waste - where is the motivation for drivers to improve their skills?

Not related to the topic at hand, but i will agree with you about the V70 T5 Turbo's - we have had 2 in at work, a 2001 y reg and a 2005 55 reg and they drive like an absolute dream!
Both had 150,000 miles or more and didnt drive like that many miles at all!

Very few insurance companies recognise Pass Plus I have come to find, or at least only offer like a £5 discount at best. Only a handful seem to offer a reasonable discount, with NFU being the best I have found so far.

Not sure who my brother is with, but he gets a discount for his IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorist) thingy!

I got my advanced ticket with Plod about 6 years ago. I asked my insurance company if that would be accepted, and was met with derision and laughter. Apparently it only counts if its the IAM test, whioch is a pain in the backside. :(

I passed my IAM Advanced 6 years ago, and one of the things I hoped for was a reduction in insurance.
What I found was that, although a lot of insurers will give a discount for it, if you're already on maximum no claims they won't give any further discount - so it didn't make any difference at all to me.
Alaric.

I got my passport to IAM about 9 years ago with the Army. Fees to join IAM out weighed any savings I may have made with insurers, so didn't bother!

NFU offered me a MASSIVE reduction after i did pass plus!

20!!
I remember it well. Series 3's were still being sold (brand new) in the dealers' showrooms.

I remember doing my RoSPA Gold in 1990, the whole thing was sold on the premise of getting an Insurance discount, seems they still peddle the same nonsense today.
