Title: Steering issues 200tdi
Post by: diesel-smoke on July 29, 2008, 09:42:01
Okay,

Having some issues again with the steering, replaced the box, drop arm, all steering bars / joints and damper, towards backend of last year with new .

When driving the car, the steering is very vague, and there seems to be a lot of play at the wheel,  when the engine is stopped, the box feels tight and has very little play.

Have tried adjusting on the top of the box, but no difference, have also bled and re bled the system with no difference.

This morning, whilst doing some other jobs, noticed a little oil seeping from the adjuster bolt, again only while the engine is running, and actually trying to move the wheels.

Could this be a pump problem, as that is about the only thing that has not been changed

This sounds like the centring being out - I forget the procedure but mine had exactly the same problem after the local ATS attempted to replace a track rod end and wrecked the steering setup in the process. A good specialist should be able to sort it out and check the alignment at the same time.

Hmm.  Last time I took the Disco to ATS I ended up doing it myself and explaining what I was doing to their 'alignment expert'.

Okay, got the tracking checked, and all is correct, however still getting the oil seeping from the adjuster screw.

Also, took the car for a run last noght and anything above 30 - 35 feels like the front end is driving on ice ?
