i notised a leak from the front of the engine at the start of the week when i got around to looking it is diesel leeking from the cambelt drain hole has anybody got any advise please
-
is it deffo diesel ?
if it is, it'll beleaking from the front seal on the injector pump at a guess
-
actaully, thinking about it....if its a 200....it could be water aswel
-
its definitely diesel. i thought is was the pump as well anybody know were i can get a seal from. is there any pipes going back from the pump to the tank that may be blocked causing extra pressure on the seals? P.S its a 2.5td engine i wish it was a 200
-
hi mate. its definately diesel. the front seal on the injector pump will be leaking. it will need sorting asap. i missed this problem on ours and it turned the cam belt in to a soggy sponge which eventually snapped and cost us a full engine rebuilt.
you can get a front seal from Sewells of leeds. there only a couple of quid and usually have them on stock.
hope this helps, charlie.

thanks mate is it hard to do or is it experts only

hi. strip it down just like you were doing the cam belt. remove belt and pump pulley,(you will need a puller of some sorts). pop out leaky seal and tap in new seal. put back together. i was advised that the seal tends to leak when the shaft wears but there were no signs of wear on our pump shaft so i just fit a new seal. no signs of leaks so far and thats 6 months ago now.

nice one i will see if i can order one then. i hope i dont balls it up i could do whith some pics if anybody has any ?

You can replace the seal yourself with the pump still in situ. This thread is for the 2.5 N/A engine (TD is the same). 200TDi is the same method, but may use a different seal. The 300TDi is much the same, but requires removal of the injector pump shaft hub.
Be aware that if the fuel is getting on your timing belt - it's highly likely to cause it to snap as the fuel affects the rubber.

WOW thanks mate thats fantastic. just need the bits now then i can get started. i think i need a list
-
The seal for the N/A and TD engines is a Delphi item - part number 7243-006.
You will also need a timing belt (Dayco is same as genuine), belt tensioner, timing cover dust seal, timing cover gasket, and perhaps crankshaft front main bearing oil seal and camshaft seal. Some people change the cam and crank seals as a matter of course, but I only do if there's evidence of a leak.
