Oh my God!
I am about to move back to UK after living in Europe for 2 years (only 2 years) and I just cant believe how much it will cost me.
On top of the general cost increases, I will be taking a £400 pay cut!
To say I am concerned is an understatement!
Is it really that bad?
-
Is it really that bad?
YES
unfortunatly it is :'( :'i would stay where you are or go elsewhere rather than come back here
-
YES!
Fuel up approx 20%
Food I think it was 7 - 8%
and they are talking about 40% on Gas and Electric for Christmas!
I never asked Santa for that prezzy! :(
Wages rise, the government are trying for generally less than was 2 or 3%
STAY PUT IF YOU CAN!!
Don't forget the stepped tax on cars and 4X4 newer than 01 being hit hard.
-
stay there matey! As soon as i can retire (12 years and counting), I'm gone! Italy is my intended place of abode.
-
I agree, as soon as I can sell the house I off to Czech...
This place is just one big stealth tax
Stay put if I was you.
-
OK guys, I was actually hoping for a little reassurance that the green hills of home were not as bad as expected!
Thanks!
Unfortunately I have little choice but to move back!
Hopefully only for a few years though!
-
I would so much like to add a silver lining to the grey cloud comments above...... but I can't :(
My current feeling is that it's spiralling out of control. Mr Blair got out at just the right time so someone else gets the blame!
I had been looking at smallholdings in Queensland (smallholdings there are 200+ acres!) , but I can't persuade the mrs that it would be a good idea

The Biggest problem with Blighty is there are too many people living for nothing , IE Benefits that why were in such a mess ,to many people with no self-respect that sponge of the rest of us and think it s ok to hide behind their kids ,......And Im not on about the foreign invasion Im on about our own ferrel work shy scroungers....................
Ah thats better.................
-
Prime example
My next door neighbours moved in 2 years ago. They have 4 kids and the father has`nt worked since they moved in.
The mother gave up work over a year ago. They both smoke and drink everyday. So if they so smoke 40 fags between them each day, they spend £70 a week on cigs. They drink each day say £10x7= £70 a week on drink.
So it really gets me that these lazy sods spend £140 on cigs and drink.
Now I work full time,so does my partner
My neighbours will never get jobs and me the tax payer is paying for them to sit on their backsides everyday.
When I want something I have to save hard but they get it all free.
God it hacks me off when i have to go to work and see them sitting in their garden smoking/drinking.
I think something needs to be done about these lazy sods who sponge off the hard workers.

I now what you mean.
I had a teenage 'customer' in the the other day after he'd nicked and written off his mother's car. His family weren't what I would call our 'usual target customers'. I tried to see if I could find out why he did it and talk some sense into him.
His response?
"<edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html) off, what do you know? I don't give a <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html). This country is crap. Why should I bother working when I can claim the dole.
My response: "Well, its nice to see that you have a good life plan and thinking of others before yourself. If I had my way, you'd disapear"
He didn't like that.

shoot them, shoot them all

You aint half right this is one heck of a rip of country!!!! We have just got back from the Royal Highland Show and sad to say it will be the last time I darken there door..... £5 for parking, I hasten to add a car park manned by crusties.... and wait for it £20 to get in the gate! And then ripped off for anything you want to eat, drink or even think of buying goods at the show.. Just about to write them a stinker of a letter.... and as Im going say at least when you feel you have been ripped off or the food is terrible in a resteraunt you have the right to get up and leave without paying!!!!

I think it is the states (and I don't usually agree with what they do) that has the rule that you can claim 'dole' for 5 years.
That's not 5 years at anyone time, that's 5 years in total! So once you have made your 5 years claim, your on your own!
Most countries have the rule that you hit our shore you must be able to support yourself 'coz you ain't paid into the system so don't expect to get anything out! We need to start doing the same. Charity begins at home and we have enough GENUINE cases of our own with out accepting other peoples and allowing our own to sit with their hand out!
£8 a week the said on the news today! £8 more a week to just have what we had last year! My wages haven't gone up by £8 and that doesn't include fuel"!
-
This country is getting beyond a joke...!!! I was only talking to my mum today on my weekly visit to see her and we were having a good old whinge about the cost of living and the increasing fuel prices. When I told her how much it currently cost to run the Disco she told me to stop coming to see her...!!!!!!! [Edited] she's the only family I've got left and I've never stop seeing her.
Well at least Mud-Club is free...
Sorry for the moan but I just needed to get it off my chest.
Mark.

-
 Thing is we can`t afford to leave this crap country, so we put up with it !!!!!
-
Can some one tell me which council is paying all these benefits as I live in Hull and When I had to sign on at the beginning of this year. I got the princely sum of £60 per week. out of that I had to give my friend £45 a week board & lodgings. which left me £15 to buy anything else I needed, keep the 90 insured and pay busfares (£1.50 to the city centre) etc. Obviously as everyone else's neighbours are raking it in I must be living in the wrong town.
-
Redhand, because you are not one of those "poor disadvantaged criminals/illegals" you will receive no support whatsoever. Madness.

This is all fair an well, but as we've got some other monkey's in europe telling us how we should live our live's and what our own government should do then we really need to get out of this stinking EU thing and get back to being an island peope once more

Then we really would be in the poo. I've lived and worked in Holland Belgium and Germany. I've also spent a reasonable amount of time in France and I can tell you I would happily live in any one of those countries because there is no way that their governments would allow big business to rip their people off the way this Government does. And if it wasn't for the "interference" from Europe we would be in an even worse state. The Gov, Press, and big business want us to believe that we're in this state because of european meddling. But the truth is it's the exact opposite. We've opted out of or veto'd almost every proposal that would give people more power and make politicians and business more accountable.
-
Our problem is that as soon as the EU say 'I think we may do ..........'
We go 'OK!' and introduce another **** law. All the bad/poor ones and none of the 'fun' ones!
Then they change their mind or just simply don't do it in their country by which time it's too late here!
Take the bike test, thin end of a damned big wedge that will be driven in further with increased difficulty in test.
They have decided in the EU that 'we' need to have an off road element to the test. Braking and avoiding cones!
The problem is that this 'needs' an area the size of a football pitch, honest!
So no test center has the required area and so can no longer offer bike tests. They are making 60 super centers to cover the whole contry instead of the 600 ish normal one we have.
Now, the problem is the the EU says these have to be on line for September. Unfortunately only half will be. So if you are a sprog living in Cumbria you will face a 125 mile round trip to the closest open super center in St Helens!
You should be given you pass cert on arrival for just completing the trip on A and B roads.
Historically we have fought the French, they don't like us and I don't think we much care for them. And we have fought the Germans. And now we just give the control of OUR country over to a group of people that don't understand what we are about.
Things that may work over there do not and will not work here.
All we need to do is bring back hanging on to the books. We don't actually need to hang anyone, although I am sure we can all think of a few we would like to test the rope on, but just having it on the books means we are out!
As for being in the poo than! Sniff up! But not too hard 'coz it's just under nose level now!
-
So just to generalise, unless I am missreading the gist of this thread, not one person thinks the UK is a worthwhile place to live?
Not ONE?
To change tack, are there good things about Britain?
Go on dig deep!
It dosent matter how small the reasons are!
-
Well....
There's Strata Florida...
(Anyone who has driven that lane will agree!)
-
Lots of places welcome people for here!

You don't know how to play the system. The guy next to us has not worked in over 30 years yet can afford to go to the pub EVERY day for 4 hours. Others in the area I speak to are happy if the 'extras' in their life consist of sky sport and cheap booz on a friday night. They don't want anything else so why work? No aspirations is the problem.

An idea put forward to me was for the state to only provide financial support to parents for their first live birth, be that one child or more to allow for twins etc, but after the first birth you are on your own. This could be complemented by neutering those who would still be inclined not to work.
As for immigration wasn't there a study out that said that economic migration was down due to growth and stability in former eastern european countries?

i cant belive what people get on benifits either, but then you look at the new houses they get and all the beifits they can now claim, your better off on the dole,
i think if 16 yr olds cant find a job within a certain time they should have to go to the army atleast that way they earn there cash or get off there lazy arses and get a job.
if it carries on this place will be in the s++t badly
-
What do you 'WILL'!
If things carry on we will all be better off on the dole because at the present rate we wont be able to afford to get to work!
With traffic jams and the distance I travel (alot shorter than most I'm sure) I bet it takes a gallon a day = £6. So over a week that's £30 just to get there and back and like I say I don't travel that far!
I have a caravan on Angelsey. I have to think now if I can afforf to go for a weekend or do I have to wait for a longer break to make the round trip worth while. How relaxing is that!

Wasn't that tried in China? By all accounts it didn't work very well.
-
In china you are only meant to have one child then no more. What i mean is you can have loads of kids as many as you want but you only get state cash for one.
