interesting read. Big brother is watching 8-[
Guess what I found in my Wheelie Bin this morning?
Alerted by this article:
Germans plant bugs in our wheelie bins | the Daily Mail
Electronic spy 'bugs' have been secretly planted in hundreds of thousands of household wheelie bins.
The gadgets - mostly installed by companies based in Germany - transmit information about the contents of the bins to a central database which then keeps records on the waste disposal habits of each individual address.
Already some 500,000 bins in council districts across England have been fitted with the bugs - with nearly all areas expected to follow suit within the next couple of years.
Until now, the majority of bins have been altered without the knowledge of their owners. In many cases, councils which ordered the installation of the devices did not even debate the proposals publicly.
The official reason for the bugs is to 'improve efficiency' and settle disputes between neighbours over wheelie-bin ownership. But experts say the technology is actually intended to enable councils to impose fines on householders who exceed limits on the amount of non-recyclable waste they put out. New powers for councils to do this are expected to be introduced by the Government shortly.
So I went outside and tipped my bin over to have a look under the lip at the top - and here is what I found...

Gerr, <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html) what is it with big brother, :police:
we have more "security" cameras than any other country in the EU, yet street crime is rising,
the government wants to put trackers in our vehicles and make us carry ID cards and now this................
when will "they" STOP poking their noses into our inalinable civil rights!
Come the revolution I'd like to see the <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html) who dremt up this gizmo tied by his <edit> (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/index.php/topic,42831.0.html) behind a pinz and dragged nekked through the streets so's we can empty our bins over him.
-
How does it record this info?
-
What difference does it make that the companies are German-owned? Only on planet Daily Wail...
Seriously, these things are RFID tags. They're not transmitting back to some shadowy HQ that you had a takeaway curry, all they do is record how often the bin is being emptied (the bin lorry will have a reader on it to record this). I don' t agree with them, but I'm not a huge fan of hysterical newspapers either...
I firmly believe that the whole system is skewed. See, recycling is a good earner for companies involved in it, so our waste is clearly worth something. In other words, the councils want to charge us to take away something that they can then sell on! Here in Powys we have kerbside recycling with as many bags as you want, and it works - people do recycle without any threats. If you make it that easy, people will do it.
-
Just throw it in the bin. No, wait...
-
These bugs usually just contain an ID tag, there have been some ideas floating around for a few years that as councils have to pay the landfill sites according to the weight of waste they dump they might just do the same to us, for which they'd need a tag.
Gotta love the Daily Mail and Express though :troll:, in their world the sky is still full of German bombers with our chip shops in their sights! And Cherie Blair uses an asdic lamp to send signals at night to secret Belgian submarines lurking just off the coast.
Sadly they know exactly when to press the race hate button....."They've never liked us" actually means "We've never liked THEM"
Personally if I was getting the stuffing kicked out of me by a drunken mob I might not mind if the police could see it on CCTV- providing they sent someone to rescue me! #-)

The darkly comical bit is that in the 1930s the Wail was pro-Nazi. Part of me wonders if that's why they seem to hate the Germans now, as they haven't been Nazis for 60 years...
-
The chip in the bug is read by a hand held box then the contents can be input-ed into the box with coded numbers ie #1 for wood #2 for plastic etc then then when emptied the wagon weighs the bin and scans again giving big bro what your dump-in and how much .
again I love the interweb however every thing I look at is recorded by the guys in the black choppers 8-[
If I ever disappear so will this

ill have a look at my bin tomorrow, itll make target practice with the air rifle

Great minds think alike, I shall remove mine with my 12 bore!

Noooo!
Dissect it and post photos. I bet most of us would love to see what's inside

What? Are you telling that the bombers are no longer there? You mean to tell me that I spent the whole of last weekend, building an Anderson shelter for nothing? Damn! I distinctly heard the church bells this morning, I thought the invasion had started! :(

Not a chance mate! I've just spent an entire night shift dealing with a domestic where the guy had knocked his wife about for the 5th time, only to have her not make a statement!

   go for it, i was planning removing it with the air rifle then using golf club to do target practice on next doors consevatory next time they play their 1930's music really loud
hmmm thats a shame we dont have one, but then mansfield district council have only just invited the dustbin lorry
-
Our recycling bin has the "socket" for one of these to be fitted, but there's nothing in there, yet. :-o
-
It may be harmless at present but it does give your county council the opportunity to charge by weight at a later date.
More worryingly they could also fine you for having a bin thats overweight.
If a bin that wont close could cost cost you £110 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/cumbria/7360147.stm) I'm sure the councils will see overweight bins as a nice little earner.
I would put that tag in your bottom drawer for now and put somebody elses tag on your bin
:D
-
I always think the best argument against there being a sinister, highly efficient, highly secret force intent on subjugating us is that this is the UK GOVERNMENT we're talking about.
I reckon 80% of conspiracy theories are caused by some idiot losing the paperwork....
-
our recylce bin has a mount for the chip :-.
-
Well dug out my gun and got the bin out, Wife went bonkers when I said I was going to shoot the bin for some strange reason!
-

-
Best make sure the bin is empty before shooting it, as I'm not convinced spreading rubbish across the garden with a shotgun blast would endear you to the neighbours!
-

:D
and then you get a knock on the door from a man in a black suit, asking why you arent putting any rubbish out ;)
-
I don't even have a wheelie bin :?
