Blimey, haven’t posted here in almost a year….
I'm having problem’s with a 200tdi discovery with 165,000 miles on the clock. When the engine is up to temperature the oil pressure light start’s flickering at idle. If you give is a bit of revs it goes out. Unfortunately I have no previous history on the engine and the service record stops at 2003.
I have replaced the oil pump, Oil Pressure sender and put fresh 10/w40 in it. The problem isn’t quite as bad but is still there. The engine sound’s sweat as a nut, no knocks or rattles at all.
Any ideas, has me stumped. :?

i think 10w40 is to thin i used to put 10w40 from work in which gave me similar symptoms and then switched to Castrol Magantex Diesel 20w40, which didnt give any problems
how regular do you change the oil??

It's a friends vehicle, he has only had it a couple of weeks so I’m not sure about how well it's been maintained. The oil didn't look too bad when I drained it though. I’ll get some 20/w40 Tuesday and give it a try.
Incidentally I have had a phone call from him asking if I can come and recover said disco tomorrow morning, apparently the bottom link bracket on the back axel has sheared off leaving it with 100" wheel base one side and 110" the other. Apparently the whole axel has rolled and taken the drive shaft out too.

ive always used 10w/40 semi without any probs in the 300. me 200 gave me the same symptoms as yours when towing , changed the stat was a 88 should be a 82 . and also there is a thermostat for the oil cooler . bottom of the oil filter housing . that cured it ...alan..

Shifted it this morning after it’s latest mishap.
One thing I don't understand is the vehicle has very little rust on it. The bodywork around the wheel arches is going but all the other usual discovery rust spots are ok, yet the trailing arm bracket on the back axel was rotten enough to shear off. The other side and rest of the underside is fine.

Thanks for the advice on this one. My mate, who owns the disco, has decided to get shot of it rather than throw money at it, he’s having the axel welded up then it's been banished to Brightwells auctions.
Was going to buy it from him but the last thing I need is another bloody landy.......................... apparently :rolleyes:
